While taking Stephen Little’s Advanced AI course through NGS, I discovered how to create custom GPTs. If you’re active on Facebook, you might have seen the images I’ve been crafting of Lilly and Bo, Mateo and Shadow, and my grandmother, Hazel. Stay tuned, as I’ll be sharing those “bots” soon!
Today, I’m excited to share two bots I created that assist in calculating birthdates from census records. (Note: You will need the paid version of ChatGPT to access these.)
1790 to 1840: Tick Mark Calculator (click here)
My first creation was programmed using plain English. Simply input the data from each column, and you’ll get a chart displaying the earliest and latest possible birthdates for that range.
For instance, here’s what happened when I entered data from the 1840 census:
- 1 male aged 10-14
- 1 male aged 20-29
The bot responded with:
- Male, 10-14 years old:
- Earliest possible birth date: June 2nd, 1825
- Latest possible birth date: June 1st, 1830
- Male, 20-29 years old:
- Earliest possible birth date: June 2nd, 1810
- Latest possible birth date: June 1st, 1820
1850 to 1950: Census Birth Calculator (click here)
The second bot, programmed in Python (a language I don’t know!), assists you in a similar manner. ChatGPT acted as my assistant by helping translate my ideas into code using plain English.
For this bot, input the census year along with exact ages, and it will provide the birth ranges in a table format.
For example, I entered: 1950 Census, Charles aged 53, Sarah aged 48, Charlotte aged 15
And received the following output:
I encourage you to give these tools a try and share your feedback or any issues you encounter!
