Leeds Method

Watch the Leeds Method Video: Free!

Many of you have asked to see a video of me teaching the Leeds Method. And, now you can… and it’s free!

RootsTech just released the rest of the videos they are sharing from RootsTech 2019. And, my PowerHour session with Diahan Southard and Christi Jacobsen is now online.

RootsTech PowerHour Session

These PowerHour sessions were a new format where three speakers spoke on one topic; in this case, DNA. In this presentation, we covered the following three topics:

    • Christi Jacobsen spoke on “Do: Take the Right Test” where she shared about the three major test types: mtDNA, YDNA, and autosomal DNA.
    • Diahan Southard spoke on “Do: Understand Your Ethnicity” explaining the basics of your ethnicity or admixture results and how you can use them.
    • And I, Dana Leeds, spoke on “Do: Work With Your Matches” where I talked about the Leeds Method of clustering your DNA matches.

I encourage you to watch the entire presentation. But, if you’d like to go straight to the section on the Leeds Method, it starts around the 40-minute mark.

  • I used your method and identified 2 last names that are probably the missing link between my parents. (They share DNA!) But now I see how you list each match’s surnames and find common ones to piece them together. It’s back to the drawing board for me. This time I think I’ll have better results. Thanks!

Some of the surnames overlap between the color groups?

The person most likely to be my bio father had no children to test DNA. I do match great grandchildren of my likely grandparents, at the 400 cM level. How possible is it to determine which of three brothers is my father without their actual DNA.
The video was very informative. Thanks

    • Hi, Don. Do the other 2 brothers have children that you could test? If so, those tests could help confirm that it was their brother who was your father. Hope this helps and is doable!
